Shania Twain could have killed me
A true story by Neil Trotter
I was photographing the Canadian Country Music Awards (CCMA) in Calgary in 2003. Shania Twain was the big award winner that year, and being the official photographer for the CCMA, I had a one on one studio session with her back stage. 6 months previous to this, I photographed her at the JUNO Awards in Ottawa. I captured a nice image of her at the JUNO Awards, and I printed 3 8x10's out of the image, with hopes of her signing each of these photos ( for my three daughters).
When I completed the photo session with her, I made sure with her Publicist that it would be okay for her to sign the photos. I got the green light. I tried to appear as smooth and calm as possible. I handed Shania a clipboard to put the photos on to sign, then I handed her the photos. I delicately took the lid off the Sharpie Permanent Marker wih which she was going to sign the photos. I gently and calmly hand her the marker. UNFORTUNATELY, I handed her the marker the wrong way....Black marker all over her right hand. Yikes....She now had a press conferenace to go to with black marker over her hand. I thought my life was over. There were other people in the room, so I think that is the reason she did not kill me.
